Open up an RnD centre, providing an environment to the professionals, scholars, students and all those who have some interesting research ideas.

Build products on their research, and launch them commercially while making the research team incharge of the technical operations for the particular product, which is the result of their research.

Very plausible but would only be practical if you can get the capital to establish such a center.

Why would an investor be attracted?

Adil, since I myself ‘am proponent of the concept of having RnD centers so, I very much support your idea. But considering Tehseen’s comment which btw raises a very valid point..I’d like to suggest something. Instead of having separate RnD centers which require huge capital to be built, can we propose our IT companies to come up with such RnD centers within their own premises or if they already have one, then allow people having ideas related to the domain they are doing business in, to build upon their ideas at those RnD centers so that products can be made based upon their work.
This obviously would involve an entire process through which the companies can evaluate beforehand what business value the idea that any individual is coming up with, brings.

universities offer incubation centers for these kinds of work. check out the ones at LUMS and now at NUST.

are those what you were looking for? or something entirely different? if so, how?

    mansoor,

I’m not talking about the incubation centres.

Take it in this way, It’ll be an RnD centre for hobbyists. I know many professionals want to do research on their ideas. They can join the centre as a freelancer.

    tehseen,

If you’ve an end product developed, commercially launched… ROI will be very very high.

How do you manage stakeholders in this particular business scenario, meaning the investors, researchers, team-leads etc.?

How do you launch products commercially?

What particular areas should be focused?

Let’s educate en masse about RnD first. A rising trend in the name of RnD is copy-paste.

Re-engineering is good but blocking your minds of futile thinking is obscene.

ps: are you talking about launching products in these RnD centers?

  8. July 11th, 2008 at 11:53 pm #adil

    Asma,

Copying is the way to go. You know about Japenese model ..

Copy > Modify > Give it your name > sell it & make profits

Why to waste time in re-inventing the wheel …

And Yea, It’ll be the launching pad for the products.

  9. August 25th, 2008 at 6:45 pm #mansoor

Adil: the keyword in the japaneese model is “Modify”. That’s where u need RnD as well! :)
